THE PLAYBOOK

How to Play Spotle

Spotle is a daily music-artist guessing game.
You get ten tries. Every guess gives you a little more to go on.

1

Start with an artist

Open the official game and type an artist you know. Pick a useful starting point, then read the feedback.

2

Compare the clues

Green means a match, yellow means close, and gray means no match. Numeric arrows point higher or lower.

3

Narrow your next guess

Keep matching attributes. Change the others. If you need a nudge, our hints reveal one step at a time.

WHAT THE TILES TELL YOU

Six ways to get closer.

01

Debut album year

Use the era of an artist’s debut album to narrow your next guess.

02

Solo or group

Separate solo artists from bands and groups.

03

Genre

Look for the game’s genre match, rather than every style an artist has ever played.

04

Country

Follow the country shown by the game. This may differ from a biography’s birthplace.

05

Gender

Use the game’s artist or group classification.

06

Popularity

Treat the game’s displayed rank as a clue. It is not a live Spotify chart.

One puzzle, New York time.

The current official client checks its puzzle date against America/New_York and the next local midnight. We use the date and puzzle number returned by the official page, rather than your device’s date. Source refresh can take time around the changeover.
